Brief History

The history of the city goes back to 1890 when it was founded by the Seaboard Air Line Railway. During that time, the area was known as McDaniel. However, it was officially incorporated as a city in 1910 and renamed Lilburn after Lilburn Trigg Meyers, who was the general superintendent of the railroad. The town prospered from there on and structures like the railroad and the Camp Creek Primitive Baptist Church were built around that time and remain in use today. Some time later, a devastating fire, together with the Great Depression in the 1920s, lead to the end of prosperity in this town. However, during the 1950s, the government was re-established, and the city once again started thriving.
